National Author and Former Prosecutor Allie Phillips To Speak at Workshop
February 25, 2012
1pm - 4pm
Sentara Obici Hospital, (Classrooms ABCD)
Suffolk Humane will sponsor a workshop featuring nationally renown author
Allie Phillips on Saturday, February 25, from 1pm - 4pm in classrooms ABCD
at Sentara Obici Hospital, 2800 Godwin Boulevard,Suffolk. Phillips is an
expert in child/animal abuse prosecution. Registration is free, but donations
to Suffolk Humane are encouraged and will be accepted gratefully.
Phillips, author of "Defending the Defenseless: A Guide to Protecting
and Advocating for Pets" will address how a shelter can work with the
community to garner more support, how to change how shelters talk about
pets (so that more people will donate, volunteer and adopt), how to work
collaboratively together within the shelter to benefit the animals and give
them a welcoming environment during their stay, and how to deal with
dissension within the ranks. She will also have her book available for
purchase at a special reduced price of $25 (retail price is $34.95).
"I hope to help those who work and volunteer with animals seek solutions
to help them and the animals they are trying to help," said Phillips.
"Most importantly, I want to hear from the shelter staff/volunteers and
community on what issues they are struggling with so that collectively we can
find solutions."
Please come to the workshop and talk with Allie Phillips (click here for her
bio) and Suffolk Humane members!
